“Agent” is one of those terms we frequently use without regard to its legal meaning. The public often refers to a real estate licensee with whom they are working as their agent, even though the licensee may be their broker and not their agent. A real estate broker or real estate agent may or may not be a REALTOR. A real estate agent or broker may only use the title of REALTOR if they have subscribed to the Code of Ethics of the National Association of REALTORS. The Code of Ethics holds REALTORS to a high standard of conduct in their business relations with the public, their clients and their customers.
